Railway Projects:
RailCorp, John Holland & Australian Rail Track Corporation.
Tamping Tool Holder.
Railcorp had requested the investigation of tool holder failures; it was found that these failures were caused due to material fatigue and an innapropriate original material selection. The manufacture of the re-designed product involved critical stress analysis and selection of a new material. Pattern equipment was designed and manufactured; castings were procured and jigs for machining were also made. The final product has proven to be superior in durability to it's predecessor.
Other railway projects include:
-
Overhead Wiring Structures.
-
Anti-throw barriers, Walkways and Balustrading.
-
Bridge Fabrication; Strengthening and Repair.
-
Specialised On-site Maintenance and Installation.
Ultra Violet Water Treatment Facilities.
This project required the fabrication of a UV water treatment facilities prototype located at Mt Stromlo. The work involved full supply and fabrication to drawings supplied by the client. The building was then installed by our on-site installation and maintenance teams. Also included was the alteration and connection of existing pipe work, utilising the latest pressure welding techniques.
Telescope Enclosure For Lick Observatories.
We have had a long association with the fabrication of these specialised structures having previously built four similar buildings for the Keck interferometer in Hawaii. The most current project involved the fabrication of another two of these buildings to a superior design and finish. The project requires the fabrication of an outer wall upon which the main dome is mounted; supporting three floor levels below it. The dome and telescope are mounted on a central column which the floors then rotate around. Challenges addressed with this project included maintaining dimensional tolerances throughout the structure; requiring accuracy above normal industry standards. Further to this most structural components are curved with attachments in several planes producing a spherical form. Drive units also required extensive machining all of which was completed in our machine shop. Once completed the structures weighing 32 tonnes are dismantled and packed into shipping containers for export.
